Game Maker PSP Runner, NEW CTO Announced by YYG

Looks like the cat is finally (officially) out of the bag! What was alluded to in a few obscure screenshots and then not very subtly in the YoYo Games Competition 5 rules has now been made official in a Glog post today; that YYG has been hard at work on a version of the Game Maker runner that works on PSP.

No Love for Rats

Lately I've been working with Andrew Gelber, a buddy of mine, to help get his skateboarding company off the ground. So far this has included creating a logo, re-skinning a WordPress theme, and doing lots of other various graphic projects. It's not a lot of work, and it's been fun and challenging to see how creative we can get. This rat image was created to be screened onto the bottom of a line of skateboards Andrew will be putting out soon.

New Games & Programs Page

In lieu of making any actual posts in February, I've been working on getting my old, outdated games page set up on the blog, and I'm just about done with it. All that's needed to do is add a few more games to the list, dress things up a bit, and maybe convert all the old games to GM8. You can find the link to the new page in the header menu, or by clicking here.

The Underwhelming iPad

The endless hype turned out to be a double-edged sword for Apple however; it raised expectations too high. When the curtains were pulled off the new iPad yesterday at Apple's keynote, it was immediately (and largely) criticized by many. And in my opinion, rightfully so. The device isn't ambitious enough, the cost is too high, and in the end, it just doesn't fit in well with all the other gadgets people already enjoy using. Here's everything that I think is wrong with the iPad, and why it is already destined for failure.

NBC Late Night Fiasco, CGI Edition

Though I haven't been staying up late enough to catch much of this last week of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, I have been keeping up with the whole debacle every day on the internet. One of the best videos I've seen (barring Conan's monologues of course) has been the following video, from the same Chinese TV firm who created the infamous Tiger Woods CGI re-enactment. Though I can't understand the audio, I think the visual half of the video speaks for itself.

Assassin’s Creed 2

I was thinking about doing a write-up of my favorite games from 2009, but it turns out that most of the games I enjoyed in 2009 were from 2008 or earlier. Luckily, I've just finished Assassin's Creed 2, and it just so happened to be one of the best games I've played in a while. So instead of doing a list, I thought I'd just write a single game review instead.

Happy Holidays

After the fallout over the old-new Game Maker logo settled, I helped produce a topic on the Game Maker Community to get everyone's suggestions in one place, and we eventually ended up putting logos to vote and submitting them to YYG as the community's official suggestions. It worked out well, but keeping it all organized left me quite exhausted.

The New GM8 Logo Stinks

Since YYG's inception, I've been a supporter of theirs. But this time, for the new Game Maker 8 logo, I strongly disagree with their choice. As both a professional graphic designer and a Game Maker user.

Torchlite: Diablo 3 Lite

After being barraged by a flurry of game announcements on Steam the other day, I decided I'd try out the demo for one of the more interesting looking titles, Torchlight. I was pleasantly surprised with the game, however — what initially looked to be merely a poor man's Diablo 3 turned out to be a fun and addictive, if somewhat simple, dungeon crawler.

Polished Windows – My Windows 7 Experience

Though I would normally shun he (or she) who would buy an operating system on launch day, a week ago I bought, downloaded, and installed the newest version of Microsoft's OS, Windows 7. It's nice to have a modern OS on my recently assembled machine, and though the transition from XP was a bit jarring in some respects, any unexpected problems have been minimal so far. Overall, I'm glad I made the switch.

Here's a quick run-down of how the (mostly painless) upgrade process went for me, from my old rig turning into a massive paper weight to the re-birth of Windows on my new machine.
