Sorry guys. You clearly don't want to have a real discussion here, so I'm done with it. I don't have any problem with foul language, but I'm not going to waste my time sorting through insult-laden posts just to show you you're wrong again.

I admitted I made a mistake, and I corrected it in my response, but you continue to call me a liar, so I have no choice but to conclude that you are too irrational to discuss this issue.

Part for part, PC's are cheaper than Macs, because with PC's you have the freedom to choose who makes the parts in your machine. Everyone knows this. I proved it. And I'm not going to waste another second of my time reading two yahoos from the internet who claim otherwise, and who seem to have a problem keeping the discussion civil.

Regardless of that, that's not even the issue this article is about; it's about why proprietary hardware sucks. And that's another realm where Apple screws you over with a smile on its face. I'm sorry you've drank the Kool-Aid and bought into this ridiculous crap, but that's just how it goes, I guess.

Compwhiz, my spam filter picked up your newest comment, and I'm not publishing it. It's just another collection of profanity-laced whining, and I'm not going to post comments on my own site from some loser who lost the argument and keeps trying to come back. This isn't "taking my ball and going home." It's asking you to play nice, you failing, and me putting my foot down.

I made an mistake with the i7 CPU, and I admitted it. If you or your "friend" are unwilling to accept my explanation, then so be it. But I'm not going to have someone call me a liar, especially on my own website, just because I made a mistake.

I'm also not going to post it because it's flat out wrong. The CPU on the mac Pro is not a 5500. The HDD is not a 1TB drive. And the Samsung monitor I mentioned, despite what your "friend" says about complaints, has gotten higher ratings on Newegg than any of the Apple displays available on the site.

I'm always open to a smart, friendly discussion... but I am not going to put up with some random buffoon on the internet trying to tell me, in the most rude and offensive way possible, that Macs are somehow cheaper than PC's, something which I have proven false here, and something that most everyone else in the industry would readily disagree with. Don't you think it odd that among just about anyone who has anything to do with computers, the prevalent opinion is that Macs are more expensive than comparable PC computers?

Anyway, if you have words of your own to post on this matter, feel free to continue posting. But if you're looking to post another line of bullshit from the kook you've been talking to, forget about it. And tell that guy to get a god damned life.

Haha, Compwhiz, you can't accept defeat, can you? I'm going to put off getting angry at your "reinforcements" for calling me a 'chump' and an 'asshole' for later in this reply - for now, I'm just going to show you how wrong you are about the cost of a comparable PC.

I'll admit that I used an i7 CPU instead of a Xeon in that build - purely an accident on my part. But the CPU you've pointed me to is not the same as the one in the Mac Pro that I used in my comparison. The Apple website lists it as "One 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon," which is a 3500 series. You're trying to sub in a 2.93Ghz 5500 series, which is way more expensive, and way more powerful. I cannot find a 3500 series CPU with the exact same specs, but it would likely be less than the $950 CPU you linked to. Go ahead and mark down the CPU in my build as about $600-700; my PC is still over $1,000 cheaper than your Mac Pro.

Tell him that the LED displays that Apple use are also IPS panels, which give superior color quality and viewing angles compared to the TN panels that you see in the bargain bin. PLUS, you can use the SAME display on a Mac Pro.
Also, tell him to look up the complaints people have been posting concerning the samsung monitors. You get what you pay for.(True that)

You're kidding me, right? Not only is Samsung an upper-middle tier display manufacturer, but they are also some of the highest quality. I use both an Apple cinema display and a Samsung LCD, and though there is a slight difference in viewing angle visibility, the picture quality is identical between the two.

Tell this chump that he made a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT computer in a thinly veiled effort to paint the Mac Pro as overpriced. None of his components are the same as the Mac Pro’s. Not to CPU, GPU, RAM, etc (That is true)
Tell him that he can build a pc with the exact same spec as a mac pro, but he is too chicken shit to do it because he knows the outcome will be very different. (I highly doubt that)

Wow. First of all, that computer is not completely different. Aside from the accidental CPU swap, the specs are identical. I'm not going to match the parts by manufacturer for RAM, HDD, etc. because there's no point in doing that - you get the same machine regardless. Why use more expensive parts when you have the choice not to? That's the main reason why you would decide to build your own computer in the first place.

Using the proper processor would raise his price a good $500 using the SAME display for both machines would either lower the price of the Mac Pro like a good $600+ or RAISE the price of his machine $600+, depending on which way he wants to go.

Okay. I'll assume this guy is right and raise my PC price by $500 to total $1,931.89. And I'll take the Mac cost down to the base cost and then add in the $400 for the Samsung monitor on the PC to total $2,898. That's still a $800 difference, and that's a considerable amount of money to just about anybody.

It doesn’t matter whether he can tell the difference between an apple display or his samsung display. They certainly ARE different.

Haha, now this is funny. You could make the same argument about Monster Cables. And that's how you know you've sufficiently lost the argument.

Now that we're through with that mess, I'm going to make this request, Compwhiz. If you wish to continue this discussion, feel free. But I don't want any more of this foul-mouthed hearsay, and I'm going to delete any further posts that showcase any more losers with nerd rage who are somehow angry at me over their lack of computer hardware knowledge. This was a waste of both of our time, because my argument still holds true - PC's are sufficiently cheaper than Macs.

"Yes, that comparison is spec to spec. When I couldn’t find exactly the same part used in Apple’s machine, I defaulted to the next best thing. I thought that when I was finished, I would be somewhere in the $2,200-$2,500 range… so you can imagine that even I was pretty shocked at the price difference.

Guess there’s some truth the “Apple tax,” eh?

And yes, I know that the new trojan requires a user’s consent to work. But I guarantee you that it is possible to bypass that, and if Macs are used by more people continuing into the future, they will find those holes and exploit them. No operating system is invulnerable to attack."

Well me being the dumb ass I am with you cornering me, I called for backup.

"

1) core 17 and a nehalem Xeon are not comparable price wise. plus, they ARE NOT the same processor. The Xeon ALONE costs almost $1k

The xeon has MORE FEATURES than the i7. Think of it as being the i7's big brother.

"So Ive backed up my words with cold, hard facts. Im sorry youve been so brainwashed by Apples marketing campaigns, but frankly, I think you needed this wake up call."

"Macs are more expensive than comparable PC’s. Anyone who has anything to do with computers (and knows what they are talking about) will tell you that."

Tell that to Calis mac guy.

"But Compwhiz, you should have just told use straight off that you were one of those people who hates Microsoft because they had a nebulous relationship with Apple’s founders… you could have saved us all the trouble of arguing with you, because you’re clearly completely irrational."

"And what about this recent trojan that was found, that turns infected Macs into botnet computers? Over the last few days, I’ve seen multiple people on TV and on the radio talking about how Macs are not invulnerable, and Mac users need to be educated about internet / computer security and safety. Seems you were wrong about that too."

Notice how it requires the users consent to make it work?

On windows viruses can execute behind the users back without the user even knowing it.

For reference, I just got on Newegg and built a computer with the same parts, or better as the Quad Core Mac Pro, with 24? display included.

The Mac Pro was outfitted as follows:
- 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
- 3GB (3×1GB)
- 640GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB
- 18x SuperDrive (32x CD / 18x DVD writer)
- Apple LED Cinema Display (24? flat panel)
- Apple Mighty Mouse
- Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad
- No other extras

The total cost of this Mac Pro was $3,398.

The PC I built on Newegg was outfitted as follows:
- Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core CPU
- GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Mobo
- Crucial 3GB (3 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1333 (PC3 10600) RAM
- Seagate 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5? HDD
- EVGA GeForce GTS 250 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 GPU
- Pioneer 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Optical Drive
- SAMSUNG Glossy Black 24? 5ms HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor
- Microsoft Black 3 Buttons / Wheel USB Wired Optical Mouse
- Microsoft Black USB Wired Slim Keyboard
- Antec Performance One P180 Silver cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Case
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 OEM

The CPU is the exact same model as the Mac Pro, the GPU is a tiny bit different (couldn’t find the same model, this one is better, I think), the optical drive is better, the monitor is an LCD as opposed to Apple’s LED (I can’t tell the difference), and the mouse and keyboard are Microsoft made. Additionally, that Antec case is pretty sweet, and you can add $40 if you want Vista Ultimate.

The cost of the PC, as configured above, is $1,431.89.
And it’s even lower if you take advantage of the combo deals Newegg has going on.

That’s a price difference of 58%. That’s huge. If you wanted to, you could add an even better video card, more RAM, and more HDD space, and you’d still be way ahead of Apple’s price."

Is that comparison really spec for spec?

"So I’ve backed up my words with cold, hard facts. I’m sorry you’ve been so brainwashed by Apple’s marketing campaigns, but frankly, I think you needed this wake up call."

Christ, not by apple, never.

The person who convinced me to switch went by the name of Nick Asatourian. This guy was a god damn genious. No matter what kind of myths that people spewed at him, he managed to disprove them through his Jungian alter-Ego. Through my 12 year old logic , I discovered that if this guy can disprove all the mac myths, then purchasing a mac shouldnt leave me to issues.

Of course when I would attempt to inform others, or try to disprove these things by myself, I would look like a total jackass for doing so, since this guy removed all this videos I used as sources. They should be reputable, because people could go nag at him.

"If I ever write a virus, it’s going to target Macs only, because of faggots like you."

Don't sneeze bud, you only have a few IQ points left.

"Macs are overpriced pieces of shit, and someone has to teach you that. Ever wonder WHY there are no viruses for a Mac? I’ll give you a hint, it’s not because OS-X is just an amazing operating system."

The "Macs are Overpriced" myth was busted long ago, some californian mac head was actually offering a cash prize to contenders who could find a comparable PC that could out run the Imac spec for spec.

Of course he stopped making his videos, after people with sub-human intellect hijacked his account.

"Comments like “HURRR DURRRR what if your free virus scanner is actually a virus DURRRRRR” make me want to strangle you."

"If you’re a complete retard when it come to computers, or of you’re an art major, I would recommend a mac. For anything else, anything at all, you want something else, probably windows."

Retard when it comes to computers? People who cringe at the word "screwdriver" and call 911 when they get a serious error message? People who have jobs, bills to pay, food to put on the table, and don't have time or patience to deal with the crap their computer throws at them?

It goes a little something like this: Pc's were developed by poor hardware manufacturers, for smart people.

Windows was developed by complete dipshits, for smart people.

While on the other hand, mac hardware was developed by geniuses for dummies.

Mac OS X was developed by gods, for dummies.

Besides, most mac users, from what Ive seen, dont have time to get into the intricacies of hardware and software issues. Because they're too busy making million dollar movies. They're too busy creating Visual FX. They're too busy making $400 an hour.

Hey, if you were somewhat smart, you would of left windows a long time ago, because you would realize how terrible it really was.

"PS: swapping RAM is not the same thing as complete customization control, nowhere near it. What you get out of the box is what you’re fucking stuck with. It’s the same with all Apple products. I can’t even replace the battery in my iPod without sending the damn thing in to get replaced at an $80 fee. Thankfully, my iPod was a gift, so when I buy a $15 battery online and put it in myself, I know that I didn’t give Apple any money for them to make my life a huge hassle."

Dont for get about hard drives!

With many OEM computers what you get is what you get.

Most computer users throw out their computers like they do appliances. Its too slow, and its just getting old and into the garbage it goes.

You cant replace the battery in the Zune without sending it in.

"Fuck apple. How they are Microsofts leading competitor, I don’t know."

Its because of apple why Microsoft exists.

"Is Microsoft evil? Probably. But I’m not going to run crying to Apple, they’re ten times worse."

Remember, apple is why Microsoft exists.
