Good question. I hate Game Trailers anyway - the site is pointless.

Oh no; the stupid commercial streamed in a reasonable amount of time. The actual content that I was actually there to see didn't. That's unacceptable. I'll sit through ads in exchange for content, but not if the content never actually gets to me the way it's supposed to. What the hell are the ads paying for if their connection speed is shit?

I thought it was kind of funny - when I finished writing, I looked down my list, and realized there weren't any Wii titles on there. I guess that just speaks to their ignoring the "core" gamer demographic... but now that you mention it, Xot, I could see Wii Fit getting commendations, just for being so out there, and addressing the growing concerns people have about being too sedimentary, even if in a somewhat superficial way.

Reconsidering the list, I think that you just might be right about Spore, but I still think the effects of the DRM will take their toll. Any gamer rag who would say "Spore would have had GOTY, except for the DRM" would both acknowledge the greatness of the game and appear to be the champion of public opinion. I'm not sure if it is in the best interests of gaming news outlets to be too critical of DRM though, since advertising dollars are always at stake.

And Yourself - yeah, I hate GameTrailers. You spend 10 minutes buffering and then all you see if their 30 second intro video before it buffers again. Someone really needs to introduce the concept of just using a watermark.

For mainstream America, I don't think there is any doubt that Spore is the GOTY in that list. It's by far the biggest media darling, making a huge splash for being (1) intelligent design vs evolution mashup and discussion springboard, (2) DRM whipping boy, (3) the followup to the monster smash hit The Sims. Little Big Planet is a hype machine, and I like the idea of the editor democratizing game making, but it's just a good looking ball of fluff without much substance. All of the others are sequels which I feel dooms them from even being considered, but of them GTA4 has by far the best chance. If the PS3 was more popular, I'd put a little more weight behind MGS4 or LBP. We all know the real winner is not even on the list: Wii Fit.

That LBP video streams too slowly for me to bother watching. If I only get 10 seconds of video every minute, I don't think you should be allowed to call it streaming.
